Special Notes and
FAQ
for ennovent beta test users
Ennovent is employing the FairPay pricing process in its
beta test launch, supported with advice from Teleshuttle.
During early stages of this testing, some supplementary
information specific to the ennovent trial is provided on this
special Teleshuttle page.
Normally this
kind of seller-specific FairPay information would be provided
directly by the seller. In the case of this beta test,
Teleshuttle is providing supplementary information in interim
support of ennovents' effort. This information is based
on Teleshuttle's understanding of ennovent's policies, and
Teleshuttle understands ennovent to have reviewed and approved
this page. Teleshuttle has no responsibility for ennovent
policies.

Teleshuttle welcomes general feedback relating to buyer use
of FairPay by ennovent or others (including
"information-only" reports on specific issues that buyers
may pursue with ennovent or others). Such general
feedback should be directed to

Ennovent is experimenting with a new way to give it users an unusual
degree of freedom, largely on a "pay what you think fair" basis, as an
alternative to more rigid conventional pricing methods. Specifics
of FairPay pricing offers for ennovent request services are on the
ennovent site.
This service works on the basis that you "pay
what you think fair" -- you are free to set the price after the
completion of each request to whatever level you believe to be fair,
considering the nature of your use and the value of the results.
The FairPay aspect of this plan
comes in from the fact that ennovent will review what you elect to pay for
each request (and the nature of the request and responses that relate to it,
plus any feedback you provide in your pricing form), and will determine if
you are paying at a level that they can accept as fair. If so, they
would continue to offer request services to you on this FairPay basis.
If not, you will be offered service at a standard set price.
Ennovent views FairPay as a way for you and them
to jointly learn how to exchange the value you get from them for the money
you agree to pay for their service. Over time they hope to add more
nuanced offers, so that they can learn to understand their users better.
Those who pay well will get premium service levels and various special
benefits, and those who pay less well get more basic service levels.
Of course those who pay much less--at a level they cannot accept as
fair--will be offered only the standard set-price plan. (Should you
not want to use this FairPay plan at any time, you may opt for standard
set-price service whenever you wish.)
Ennovent (and Teleshuttle) hope you will feel
that this FairPay plan can work well for you and for them. However, if
after a period of experimentation and use they find that it does not result
in good pricing behavior from a sufficient number of users, they may be
forced to discontinue the plan. We hope you will see the potential
value of FairPay, and that ennovent will be able to continue it and expand
it.

NOTE -- Free Trial Mode:
The FairPay process is to be phased in, to facilitate early usage and
learning as the ennovent network grows in scale and value.
-
Initial use
will be in FairPay Free Trial Mode, in which users will be
asked to say what they "would" be willing to pay, without
actually making any real payment.
-
After the
network grows, a second stage of trial will be FaiPay
Real-Payment Survey Mode, in which real payments will be
requested on a purely voluntary basis (pure "pay what you
want"), with no adverse consequences for zero or unfairly
low payments.
-
The Full FairPay
Mode is to be phased in only after this trial period.
This is the mode in which offers may be restricted for those
users not judged to pay fairly.
Ennovent will
provide advice to users as their pricing process develops
through these trial stages. |

ennovent is in Free Trial Mode, as outlined in the box above.
Why are you offering this FairPay Plan?
We want to give you the maximum flexibility to set a price that is
fair with respect to how you use the service, and how you value it. We are
counting on your fairness, and we want to build a cooperative relationship
with you, as one of our valued users. If you play fairly with us, we
will do our best to give you maximum freedom, and to find other ways to
reward you.
The FairPay Plan is intended to let you tailor a plan that fits
you exactly -- and to continue to make adjustments as your usage
warrants. Your usage may vary widely in terms of the kind of requests
you make, how many responses you get from what kinds of responders, how good
the responses are, and how successful the overall result is.
Obviously, we have to set our standard price at a set level that covers the
costs of serving our average user. We have to balance a price that
will not discourage occasional users or those with simple/low-value
requests, but will also not be so low that regular users or those with
complex/high-value requests do not carry their weight. One single
price does not really fit all. FairPay pricing is adaptable.
I don't want to play guessing games -- how
do I determine what you will agree is fair?
FairPay is a structured process that gives you freedom with guidance.
We will provide a suggested price that you can use as a starting point for
going higher or lower as you see warranted. Initially, this suggested
price might just be the same as the standard fixed price, but as its FairPay
process is developed, we will suggest a price that we think fair just for
you, based on your particular usage situation. You can simply
agree to that suggested price, or choose to go higher or lower, and tell us
why. (During testing, while no real payments are due, no price may
suggested, as we survey user input on what you think would be fair.)
What if I do only a simple request and/or
get little or no response?
If you have asked very little, and have gotten little value, you are free to
pay little or nothing, without fear that we will revoke your FairPay
privileges. However, as you become a regular user you might also feel
that even simple uses and/or finding out that a request got little response
might be valuable, and that some payment is appropriate. We will
provide a suggested price accordingly (but of course you are free to pay
more or less).
What if I make a complex request and/or
get many good/valuable responses?
We hope you find greater value than the average user and will feel it
appropriate to pay proportionately more than the standard rate (which is
aimed at average users and average requests), and we will provide a
suggested price accordingly (but of course you are free to pay more or
less). If you pay well, we may offer special/premium services to show
our appreciation. But a pattern of payment that is not well below the
standard or suggested rate would not lead us to revoke your basic FairPay
participation.
What information will you use to decide what
is fair?
We will provide (once fully implemented) a usage report, with explanation of
our price suggestion, along with a simple Web form that you can use to
indicate what price you choose and why. You can use this form to
clarify your usage of services, your view of the value received, the context
of your use (such as funding status, social responsibility, non-profit
status, etc.), and to note any service problems you encountered, and the
like. If your pricing is above or below the suggested or typical
price, this will help us understand why you think that to be fair. We
may also ask if you are willing to share some basic data on your ability to
pay (but will not require that). We may also check commercially
available databases to better understand your situation relative to our
other users. What if
I am on a limited budget?
We understand that users have varying means, and are willing to adapt
our expectations accordingly, based on what you tell us and what we may
know from other sources. In cases where we have information on that, we
may suggest an adjusted price for your situation.
What if few users pay as much as you would like?
Our hope is that users will understand that we need to cover the costs
of our service from a share of the value you receive. If too few
pay more or less as suggested, we may be forced to eliminate the FairPay
option, and require all users to pay at conventional set-price rates.
We hope you will agree that would be unfortunate for everyone, and will
do your part to make this work.
Do your really expect people to pay more than the standard rate
Much as public television and museums have premium subscribers and
benefactors, we hope those who are regular users -- and those value the
quality of our services and network, and can afford to pay more, will
see fit to do so. We hope you will see that as a way of helping us
to serve you -- as well as to compensate for those who cannot afford to
pay full price. We will seek ways to show our appreciation to
those who pay at premium or benefactor levels.
Can my payments vary widely from request
to request?
Sure, if your usage varies, or your value-received varies, it would be fair
to reflect that in what you decide to pay. For a complex or high value
request, a higher price might be fair. For a simple or low value
request, a lower price might not be inappropriate. And if we provide
many responses of high quality that help you achieve financial success, we
would hope you will see fit to share a small portion of that. To the
extent that we can see that your usage and level of responses varies from
average, we will report that and suggest a price that we think corresponds
accordingly, but you will still be free to adjust upward or downward from
that as you judge fair. The pricing form will ask you to set your
price in terms of a percentage of the suggested price -- you can price at
that suggested level, or higher or lower by whatever percentage you wish to
specify each time.
Can I pay nothing at all?
Yes, any time you really think that is fair. If you give a
reason why you think that is fair, and it is a reason we can accept as
reasonable (such as poor response, poor results, or having reported
technical problems, or some other reason why you feel that you got little or
no value), we will try to be accepting of that. But if you do not
provide a reasonable explanation, we will not continue your FairPay plan.
Might
I get cut off from FairPay if I make a single mis-step that you consider
unfair?
Not if you make a reasonable effort to justify the fairness of any
payments that are well below suggested prices. FairPay is designed
to converge on fairness over the course of a relationship -- so if you
show a good-faith effort to explain low payments on your pricing form,
we will seek to understand your reasons, and work with you. We may
ask for more information, and/or may put you into a probationary status
while we try to continue to work with you, to see if we can agree that
you are being fair over a series of transactions. But if you set a
very low price without giving any justification, then you might be
excluded from further transactions. Even then, we will offer a
re-instatement process.
Is this price setting
going to be a burden?
We will do all we can to streamline the process and customize it to adapt to
your situation. We hope you will find that it provides you with a high
level of flexibility and satisfaction, and helps us serve you better, and
that compensates for any minor effort it adds.
Why should I bother with this?
We hope you will see the potential value of FairPay relationships to you
-- how this process can be liberating, flexible, and highly productive
-- and will work with us to try to jointly learn how to make FairPay
processes work well for everyone. Wouldn't it be worth it to
always be able to pay what you think fair -- after you know what you
got?
